Come stop by the second annual Catherine Mahaffey East Whatcom Wellness Fair on May 20! Free services and resources will be offered by local health providers. The fair will also offer entertainment, a free handcrafted lunch from the Common Threads Food Truck, snacks, and activities for all stages of health, including children and elders.
Free to attend, the Wellness Fair is named in honor of the late Catherine Mahaffey, a philanthropist deeply invested in the health and well-being of the people in her East Whatcom community. The event brings free and much-needed health services to a region where healthcare is often an hour or more away. Free services and activities include:
- Transportation To and From Event – RSVP Only
- Health Check-Ups
- Sports Physicals
- Blood Pressure or Blood Sugar Testing
- Vision Exam and Glasses, Hearing Screenings and Dental Screenings
- Youth Bike Skills Course
- Bounce House Step Count Challenge
- Nooksack Storytelling with Tamara Cooper-Woodrich
- Free Resources, Education and Giveaways
No insurance is necessary. However, people interested in receiving services are asked to register online before the event.
Interpretation for Spanish, Russian, and Mixteco will be available on-site. Free transportation to and from the event is available by registering in advance. For other accommodations such as ASL interpretation, please send a request to Jessica Bee (jessica_bee@nulloppco.org) by noon on Monday, May 15. Please note that while every effort will be made to support guests accessing care, there is no guarantee of service.
Volunteers are also needed to help with parking, translation, intake, and more. Please sign up to help! Donations are also appreciated – certain types of biking gear for ages 3 to 18 can be dropped off at our East Whatcom or Administration Office locations.
The fair is a collaboration between Sea Mar Community Health Center, United HealthCare Community Plan, PeaceHealth, Medical Teams International, VSP Vision Care, Health Ministries Network, Opportunity Council, Whatcom County Health and Community Services, Molina Healthcare of Washington, Northwest Regional Council, and the Area Health Education Center of Western Washington.

Opportunity Council’s East Whatcom Regional Resource Center serves rural populations who often live 26 or more miles from services such as groceries, childcare and healthcare.
